What You Can Expect

Tokyo Wagashi-Making Class with Tea

Wagashi (Japanese sweets) Making

Meet your instructor outside the Toritsu-Daigaku Station exit and guide you to your classroom. Learn the recipes for the day’s wagashi sweets—notes and recipes are provided in English and the instructions are simple.

Make two or three kinds of sweets, completing the process from start to finish: mix the sweet dough, tint it using edible food coloring, shape it into a classic form, then get creative with designs and decorations. Wagashi are delicious to eat, but Japanese cooks love to make theirs as pretty, funny and unique as possible, creating shapes that range from exquisite flower blossoms to adorable fishes, bunnies and bears.

You’ll bring your wagashi home at the end of the class after joining your instructor for a short tea ceremony. Nibble wagashi that your instructor prepared for you, sip a traditional bowl of Japanese tea, then return to Toritsu-Daigaku station.
