What You Can Expect

Singapore's Colonial District Walking Tour

Singapore's Colonial District Walking Tour

Your walking tour starts near City Hall, where you’ll meet your guide, a Singapore history buff with plenty of interesting information to share about the period of time when Singapore was a colony of Great Britain, beginning in the early 1800s when British officer Stamford Raffles arrived and ‘founded’ modern-day Singapore. This fusion of Eastern and Western influences led to the fascinating, culturally rich destination that Singapore is today.

With your guide, begin your tour at the Supreme Court of Singapore, where you’ll visit the viewing deck for a nice photo op of the city. Then head down the street to St Andrew’s Cathedral, an Anglican church founded in the mid-1800s as a place of worship for British officials. It was also used to take care of wounded victims of the Battle of Singapore during the Japanese invasion in World War II.

Next, visit the Armenian Church, Singapore’s oldest Christian church, to learn a bit about the city’s Armenian community and admire the church’s architecture. Continue to a third religious landmark, CHIJMES, a Gothic-style Catholic convent turned shopping, dining and entertainment complex that dates back to the 1840s.

When you tour ends, you are free to continue exploring on your own.

Great tour about some of the history of Singapore as the city developed from a fishing village to the high rise city it is today. She also shared information about how the city is run today, e.g. court system. The tour guide, Wei Wei, was excellent. She had an unbelievable set of facts and dates in her knowledge base that she shared freely. She was always conscientious of our physical placement, e.g. in shade, to keep us a cool as possible. I would recommend the tour.

Excellent guide, great tour. It was well paced with plenty of stops which were also opportunities to tell more stories about the people, history and buildings. The guide had an excellent knowledge of history and was also someone who could tell a great story. The visit to the top of the new Supreme Court was a highlight.

Excellent tour. Very informative. This is a great way to learn about the history of Singapore. Our tour guide, Carol Dragon, was very entertaining and shared a wealth of knowledge with the group. The tour, however, is not suitable for children or teenagers.

The positives: Carol was fantastic, a fountain of knowledge, and considerate to the age of the group and the heat, found places for us to sit down out of the heat while she filled us in. She remembered our names! I saw and learned so much more in the time frame than if I had tried to do it by myself.
Against: I thought it would have been an advantage to book ahead, but people rolling up on the day without booking, paid less than I did. I was a bit put out!
