Why Travellers Choose This Tour

Tickets to Alcatraz often sell out, so this is a great way to guarantee admission. You also have your choice of three different bike tours so you can see what interests you most, and you can keep the bike for any remaining hours afterward to continue exploring San Francisco or Marin on your own.
This 2-day tour package is perfect if you’re looking to explore the city and pay a visit to Alcatraz. On both days, your group takes off from San Francisco.

On the first day, go to Pier 33, which is where the ferry will depart and take you to Alcatraz Island. Depending on what time you chose (9:30am, 10am, 11am, 11:30am, 12:30pm, and 1:05pm), your ferry will depart either in the morning or afternoon.

Once you arrive on the island, get set up with the self-guided audio tour equipment. Make your way through the prison while listening to stories of infamous inmates such as Al 'Scarface' Capone and 'Birdman' Robert Stroud. Take a peek into cells, and gain a better understanding about what life was like as an inmate here. You can spend as much time as you like at Alcatraz, but just be sure to get to the ferry for the last ride back.

On the second day of this package, enjoy a guided bike tour. You get to choose from three different tours, including the Streets of San Francisco, the Waterfront and Golden Gate Bridge, or the Evening Waterfront and Golden Gate Bridge. No matter which you choose, follow your guide (on a bike) from Fisherman’s Wharf around popular areas and lesser-known spots. Tour times vary by choice, but will be between three and four hours long.

Itinerary

Ride through the alleyways of North Beach’s Italian district, and look up at the Transamerica Pyramid en route to the Barbary Coast, home to historical supper clubs. Ride around the Giants' AT&T Park and into the culturally rich Mission District, the Castro and Haight-Ashbury. Pedal through NoPa (North of the Panhandle), snap photos of the charming Painted Ladies (the Victorian and Edwardian homes on Alamo Square), visit Civic Center, and cycle along Polk Gulch before finishing at Aquatic Park. You’ll have a break to purchase lunch from a SoMa food truck (discount coupon included) and sip coffee in the Haight (own expense) while learning about the locals that make up each unique community.

Alcatraz was amazing and a must see while in SF. Purchasing the tickets through Viator was easy breezy. Note that the location of the departure is Pier 33 and not Fisherman's Wharf. We weren't sure of the departure location so I had to make a couple of calls to verify the name of the actual tour company and where their boats departed. The bike tour of SF wasn't exactly what we hoped for, though. Bay City Tour Co. was extremely friendly and accommodating but their bikes may need a little extra loving care. They squeaked severely when we had to brake and the chains came off on two of our four bikes. Not sure if that is an electric bike thing. The tour guide easily repaired them on the fly, though. I am not so sure it is super safe to take some of the roads we took in heavy traffic. Our guide sorta flew through some intersections and being one of the last in a line, it got hairy a couple of times. The locations they took us to were very comprehensive of the city. It was a bit too long for our group of four with two teenagers.
