Focus on ancient Rome with an in-depth tour of three of its main sights with this 5.5-hour tour of the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill. Join an archaeologist as your guide to learn about Roman history as you see the ruins of temples, triumphal arches, and palaces.
  • 5.5-hour tour of Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Palatine Hill
  • Get a more detailed history lesson with a longer tour of ancient Roman sites
  • Enjoy skip-the-line entry to avoid waiting in the often long lines
  • See the remains of palaces, temples, baths, and more with an archaeologist guide
Begin your tour with a visit to the Colosseum, one of Italy's most famous monuments. Learn about the bloody gladiatorial games that were once held in this arena, some involving wild animals, and of the naval battles during which the amphitheater was flooded.

Venture next to the Roman Forum nearby to walk along the cobblestone streets. See the ruins of structures such as the Temple of Saturn, House of the Vestal Virgins, Basilicas of Julia and Maxentius, and more. Learn about pivotal moments in ancient Roman politics as you walk through what was once the epicenter of the Roman Empire.

From there, climb to the top of the Palatine Hill overlooking the Forum to see where the nobility of ancient Rome once lived. Admiring the views from the gardens, it's easy to understand why it was so sought after for the villas of emperors and other members of the aristocracy.

Learn about the role Palatine Hill plays in the legend of Rome's founding as the location where Romulus and Remus were found and nurtured by the she-wolf. Explore the remains of Domitian's vast Flavian Palace and see what's left of the Stadium of Domitian and the Baths of Septimius Severus.

Enjoy plenty of personalized attention from your archaeologist guide with tour group size limited to no more than 13 people, and avoid waiting in long lines with skip-the-line tickets purchased in advance by your guide.

Very knowledgeable tour guide, but too much personal interjection, which he was amused by , but a majority of our group found it uncomfortable and unnecessary. Would have liked to spent more time at the Colosseum and less at Palatine Hill. Overall experience very good and definitely need 5 hours to see it all. Comfortable shoes and stamina!

Luca brought to life the Forum, Palatine Hill and Colosseum with fact based passionately delivered information told in engaging stories of these world renowned sites. Luca’s historian qualifications and 7 year dig experience at the sites adds so much to this particular tour which is first rate. By tackling the large Forum and Palatine Hill sites first these are viewed before the major groups entry and provided a relaxed atmosphere in this busy time of year (19-Jun-18) in Rome. This tour is highly recommend for this top Rome attraction.

An excellent tour to better understand the timeline of Roman empire transition to a Vatican state. Our tour guide Caterina Panetta was exceptionally excellent and energetic during the five hour tour. She was very knowledgeable, answered our questions with great enthusiasm for the subject and made the roman history very simple and understandable. This tour exceeded our expectations by a wide margin. Sure, everyone can see the Roman Forum, Palatine Hill and the Colosseum from the streets, but there is nothing like walking through with a knowledgeable and engagaing tour guide that was able to bring it all to life and increased our awareness.

Our guide, Thomas Robinson, was excellent and excellent does not do him justice. Very knowledgeable, answered our questions, great enthusiasm for the subject.

Maria Libera Del Vecchio was an enthusiastic and knowledgeable historian whose energy was contagious! She made ancient Rome come alive for us, helping us imagine being a vendor in the Forum, a child running the streets, a senator in chambers, a nobleman on Palatine Hill, or a wash-woman in the river! She demonstrated the archeologic layers to be found so we started to see the older travertine vs. the later brick-style construction. She helped us visualize the missing buildings, hear the long-silenced commotion of market day, and smell the invisible stench of the swamplands from long ago. Maria knew the plant life of the area, and enriched our experience even more by helping us find edible herbs and discussing how olive oil is made. We were constantly on the move, stopping long enough for a story or for her to point out a sculpture that demonstrated the evolution of Christianity through pagan symbols or marks on a building where marble slabs had been removed and transported to St. Peters Basilica during construction in the 1500s. Answering questions in the Colosseum was second-nature for her, and learning that a private, royal lake had been drained and the Colosseum built on the site for the benefit of the community was a new bit of information for me, as was the fact of the extinction of a variety of African mammals from north Africa just so they could be slaughtered in a public spectacle. The details she shared with us truly made this tour worth every penny.

Our guide Maria was wonderful - exceptionally knowledgeable and fun too. She did a great job of answering questions and appealing to the needs of all in our group. Thank you for this excellent introduction to ancient Rome!

Our tour guide was fantastic, he had an amazing knowledge of everything and was attentive to the needs of the group, allocating enough opportunities to sit down amongst all the walking. One of my favourite tours in Europe, would highly recommend to anyone wanting to visit the Colosseum.
