Everything a tour should be.
From the off the beaten path stops, to the educational factor, to going into someone's house and cooking with them and listening to them share their stories and their history.
all the 5 star reviews are accurate.

When was the last time you were invited into someone's home when you went on vacation to learn how to make a few local foods, enjoy some conversations, history and grasp a bit of local culture? I cannot say enough great things about this tour. From the moment we started the drive over to the open market we were given a history lesson for Quito and the surrounding Ecuador. At the market we saw fruits and veggies from floor to ceiling along with flowers so, so many flowers and the stalls for candies/chocolate along with fresh cooked foods.
The second stop was at an actual bakery - again in the middle of Quito. We saw the entire process and then sat down for Quito quesadillas they are not what you think they are, hot chocolate with mozzarella cheese again, it was an experience and I think my new way of drinking hot chocolate in the future.
We then proceeded to be invited into a lovely home in the middle of Quito to cook with a beautiful woman who could have easily been my grandmother. Her and her family cook for vendors all throughout the city and they were in full production when we arrived. The cooking portion was fun but the conversations, the actual tasting of the foods, and sitting down at their family table to eat - was unexpected and humbling to say the least.
Out of all the travels that my wife and I have experienced, this was by far the best excursion led by the absolute best guide. We cannot thank you enough.

i really enjoyed this tour. Guide Pablo was excellent, a wealth of local knowledge. It was far more than culinary and cooking. Pablo gave me an insight in Educadors history, past and present. Cooking lunch with a local lady in her own kitchen was very special.

Gracias Pablo, for a great day out.

I really liked our guide. He was prompt and interesting. We visited a local market and discussed many of the fruits and vegetables unique to Ecuador and the Andes. We then visited a local bakery that makes a classic quesadilla that is popular in the capital. We had one with coffee. We then went for the cooking class. This consisted of rolling out corn dough and flour dough to make empanadas which were then deep fried and we had a nice lunch.
I had been expecting a true cooking class and based on previous experiences expected our trip to the market to be a gathering, functional trip to procure the items for lunch. We then would prepare and blend and finally cook lunch. Bottom line, there was not a whole lot of cooking and I was disappointed.

Fantastic experience. I highly recommend Santiago and this tour. Very personal experience just my wife and me. Learned a lot about Ecuador life and city history with a food slant that you'd never get in a larger group. Visiting bakery and then a local home to make some treats was so much fun.
