What You Can Expect

Milford Sound Tour with Flight, Cruise and Jet Boat Adventure from Queenstown

Milford Sound Cruise with Mitre Peak Cruises

Your tour begins with pick-up from your Queenstown hotel and a short transfer to the hangar to board your flight. Take off for a 40-minute flight to Milford Sound and admire spectacular views over the Fiordland National Park, as you swoop over the snow-capped peaks, glittering lakes, and dramatic fjords.

After touching down in Milford Sound, enjoy the fjord from a different perspective as you set sail on a 2-hour cruise. Keep your camera close to hand as you cruise past natural wonders like the 525-foot (160-meter) high Bowen Falls, the striking hanging valley of Sinbad Gully, and the snow-capped peak of Mount Pembroke.

Climb onto your boat’s viewing platform to get a better view of the local wildlife, including colonies of fur seals, pods of dusky dolphins, and the rare Fiordland crested penguins. As you continue towards the Tasman Sea coast, pass beneath the distinctive 5,551-foot (1,692 meter) mountain of Mitre Peak, one of New Zealand’s most photographed landmarks.

Back on dry land, your driver will be waiting to transfer you to the Milford Sound Airstrip, where you’ll board a second 40-minute flight to Glenorchy. Here, jump aboard a jet boat for a thrilling 1-hour cruise along the Dart River, into the heart of the Mt Aspiring National Park, a filming location for the Lord of the Rings movies. You’ll also have chance for a closer encounter with the park’s diverse wildlife and discover the region’s rich Maori heritage on a 30-minute guided hike through the forest.

After an action-packed day, you’ll be transferred by coach back to Queenstown where your tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.

Please note: Flights are weather dependent - you will be notified an hour prior to departure time if the weather is appropriate to proceed.

This tour covered many attractions that it would normally take a few days to see and was really well organized. The scenery was beautiful on the flights, cruise, and jet boat excursions. Staff was really friendly and good as well.

Incredible day. Smoothly orchestrated, lovely people running each activity from Nely on the phone to Nadia in the air to Mark on the boat and Ian in the forest. Professional, fun, kind and accommodating to the last when we needed a lift to our car back at the airport. Worth every cent. Amazing, unforgettable experience!

The Milford Sound flight and cruise are just amazing, bucket-list items. By far the highlight of our time in NZ.

After that, there is quite a bit of time between when you get dropped off in Glenorchy and when the jet boat tour starts, so you can explore the little town and get a bite to eat at one of the handful of cafes. The 30-minute guided hike through the forest is not all that interesting, but the jet boat ride is terrific fun and it takes you through some really beautiful country.

Fantastic!! I can't say enough about how wonderful this tour was! From the pick up at our hotel to the drop off and everything in between! The flight was amazing and we lucked out because we had an absolutely gorgeous day - sunny and zero wind - so we were able to fly right past the mountains and glaciers! The cruise was fun and relaxing. The tour of the forest was cool with lots of info on middle earth and the jet boat adventure was spectacular! Loved it! Highly recommend

Our wonderful pilot was Andy, he was very professional, courteous and patient with our questions. The plane felt safe and was clean and ran smoothly. We flew right next to the Alps which was incredible and the whole view of the mountains, valleys and alps were breathtaking!

This tour was the highlight of our 2 week NZ adventure. It's simply priceless to view the beauty of the mountains and then the Tasman Sea from the sky. Milford Sound is breathtaking from both the plane and the boat. We also loved the Dart River jet boat tour following the flight to Glenorchy. Our guide, Liam was terrific and made it even more enjoyable. Highly recommend this tour of 3 fantastic adventures in one day including the scenic flight. Both vendors displayed professionalism and great customer service. They aim to please and that can be difficult when weather doesn't cooperate. We had a cancelled day so be sure to plan for the earliest day of your stay and then other days can be considered if the first or second day has to be cancelled due to weather/low hanging clouds.

What a day!!
The flight to Milford Sound from Queenstown was breathtaking. The views as you fly over the mountains have to be seen to be believed. The cruise along the Sound was superb as well. As well as the views of the stunning scenery, the opportunity for a landlubber like myself to see the local seal population either lazing on the rocks or splashing about in the water was not to be missed.
Again, the flight to Glenorchy was stunning. The hour or so take in the sights of the town and grab a bit of lunch was just about right for timing, and the choice of places to eat for such a small town was rather good in my opinion.
The jet boat trip on the Dart River was possibly the highlight of an already amazing tour! The combination of the stunning scenery and the thrill of the jet boat's speed made for an unforgettable afternoon.
If you are planning to go to the Queenstown area, I really could not recommend this trip highly enough. Superb! :

I cannot recommend this tour enough! Stunning views from both the planes and the Milford Sound river cruise and a very enjoyable afternoon on the jet boat including a very interesting and informative bush walk. Our guide Blair, our pilot Andy and jet boat driver Morgan were all brilliant, really friendly and good fun. This was my favourite day of our three week trip around New Zealand!

This was our most amazing day in New Zealand. The flight with Cory from Queenstown was incredible over the mountain ranges, waterfulls and glaciers. Our cruise on the Mitre Peak with Captain Dave was beautiful and the dolphins swimming in the boat wake was so fun to see and watch. Our 2nd flight of the day to Glenorchy was also wonderful with more beautiful scenary and pristine lakes among the mountains. Thank you Cory for being a great pilot and guide. The Glenorchy nature walk and coach ride to the Jet boat with Alex was fun and very informative with information on the filming of the Lord of the Rings done in the area. The jet boat adventure with Finn was really incredible. Such great fun and amazing in the Dart River. A real must fo. Then finishing the day was the 40 minute coach ride from Glenorchy back to Queenstown with Brad. Indeed it was one of the most beautiful stretchs of road in New Zealand. Thank you all for a really wonderful and just perfect day. The weather was sunny, with blue skies and about 70 degrees. Perfect.
