What You Can Expect

Douro Valley Small-Group Tour with Wine Tasting, Portuguese Lunch and Optional River Cruise

Enjoy tasting different wines on this tour to Alentejo wine regions

Depart from Porto in the morning after pickup from your hotel and get comfortable aboard your minivan for the 1.5-hour scenic drive inland.

Then continue on to Pinhão and admire the scenery with free time to explore the lovely village independently. Perhaps stroll to the Pinhão train station to view its blue-and-white tile murals depicting the scenic countryside and swathes of vineyards that make up the Douro landscape.

If you’ve upgraded your full-day tour to include a Douro River cruise, hop aboard a rabelo boat — a traditional cargo boat native to this region — for a leisurely 1-hour ride. You’ll meander up the Tua river tributary and pass by Quinta da Romaneira before returning back to Pinhão.

Either before or after your cruise (if you've upgraded), you'll pop into one of the wineries on the agenda for the day before lunch.

After a traditional lunch of typical Douro cuisine accompanied by wine at a renowned restaurant, your guide takes your small group to another family-run estate where you’ll discover local winemaking and enjoy a tasting session of award-winning ports and wines.

Stop by the shop to make any purchases before departing the Douro Valley for the relaxing return drive to Porto, arriving at your hotel in the evening.

Celia was a fantastic tour guide. Spoke excellent English and French as we had both on our tour. Small group/8 people. We really got to know everyone at lunch over authentic português food and of course lots of wine and a beautiful view of the Duro valley. We also did the one hour tiver cruise right before lunch. I would highly recommend it. Overall a wonderful day away from the city.

Our guide Hugo was friendly and professional. He provided us with a wealth of information throughout the tour. Views of the Douro valley and visited vineyards were breathtaking. Boat trip down the Douro was great as well. Lunch was outstanding. All in all this excursion is well worth the money. We had a wonderful day and recommend this excursion and Hugo wholeheartedly.

Our day began with the most friendly and happy guide. She gave us such a wonderful experience with lots of information and great stops with great food. Our lunch stop was exquisite, dining with only the locals. The small tours are a must and try to go with our guide - she was fantastic.

The valleys were breathtaking and the vineyards were great in their own way. I loved the traditional Portuguese lunch and the trip on the boat.

This is an absolutely amazing tour! It does truly take up the entire day but it is so worth it. We were picked up from the doorstep of our hotel at 8:40am. The van already had 4 people in it (2 couples) and we picked up another couple after us, which made it a total of 8 people. The tour guide (Salley?) was great! She had a sense of humor, provided lots of information while driving first about Porto, then wine, Douro Valley, port, etc. She did pause and let us relax also. After 1.5 hours, we made it to Douro Valley region. The road is quite winded so if you get car sick, I recommend taking some anti-nausea medicine potentially. I definitely needed it :) we stopped at a vista of the valley (although the views are beautiful the entire day as we drive), visited a little cute town Pinhão, winery that had a very nice tasting and mini tour. Then we purchased some wine (was not pressured into this AT ALL, had to initiate on our own) and also got an open bottle for the boat ride, which was next. I definitely recommend taking some wine on the boat, most people had a bottle! Some even brought their own separately in a backpack. The boat ride was about 1 hour and had peaceful, enjoyable views. After that we had lunch. Our choice for the dish was collected earlier in the day and had options of about 5 meals (incl vegetarian). The lunch also included appetizers, bread and wine. Very tasty! Our tour guide sat with us and answered questions about life in Portugal and carried on a great conversation. After that we visited a port winery. I do wish this part was a bit longer and we could purchase a glass of port and just enjoy the views. We headed back to Porto shortly after.Highly recommend this tour!

We had a fantastic day with Paula as our guide. We enjoyed the small group attention. This was a great way to see the Douro Valley.
