What You Can Expect

On this 90-minute tour of the Catacombs, you’ll descend into the Parisian underground with your guide and discover the mysterious world that sits beneath the city. Arrive 15 minutes early to ensure your skip-the-line access. Your group will have a maximum of 20 people. The temperature below is typically 14°C/57°F, so make sure to dress accordingly. (Restrooms and coat checks are not available.)

Please note that because some areas underground are narrow and have low ceilings, guests susceptible to claustrophobia or cardiac or respiratory weakness are strongly discouraged to visit the Catacombs.  As there are many steps to enter and exit the Catacombs, this activity is not suitable for those in wheelchairs. In addition, children are not advised to participate in this tour.

Outside the entrance of the Catacombs, your guide will provide you with a headset and a brief explanation of the history of the Catacombs.  Then, make your way down 137 steps. Throughout the tour, you will have the opportunity to take pictures and ask questions as your guide shares insight into the Catacombs' origins, their transition into a modern cemetery, and their appeal today. At the exit, climb 87 steps to emerge onto the streets of Paris.

This is a great tour! If you really want to see the Catacombs and understand how they came to be, this is perfect for you. The time is well spent, avoiding the lines, but getting enough time to really see the historical significance.

The Paris Catacombs are a must-see attraction i believe. Very unusual and an interesting yet dark part of Paris's history. The catacombs cover a huge part of underground Paris. And this is the only authorized section that is legally visited by the public. Tourists, with the price of admission, can walk thru the catacombs on their own which I first did or pay for a tour guide which I just did. Of course the paid tour was much more interesting and informative, but fairly expensive. The first time I waited in a long live, this time I showed up just before the tour was to begin and just walked in ahead of the long line.

Really interesting and the guide takes you down paths that most of the crowd does not generally see.

The tour guide for this tour was great. He was very knowledgeable and shared a lot of history. It was very interesting tour knowing this was all under the city, but honestly all the bones represented a life and after awhile it got to be a little creepy. I did find the tour guide wonderful and respectful of it all though. Take the tour, but don't think too much like I did!
