Zip along the country roads of Tuscany by Vespa, on a day trip from Montecatini. After a transfer to Florence, you’ll meet a guide and pick up a scooter. Ride solo or hop on behind one of the tour escorts to travel through the idyllic Chianti region, stopping at a farm for a wine tasting and lunch. Age restrictions apply: Drivers must be over 18, and passengers over 13 years old.
Leave Piazza Italia in Montecatini between 7:30am and 7:45am, and travel to the Florence train station. Here, you’ll put on your helmet and pick up your classic Vespa.
Start with a short practice session to get used to the scooter. If you don’t feel confident enough to ride it on your own, just hop on behind one of the tour escorts. Then, follow your guide out of the city, onto the country roads that wind through the Tuscan hills.
Pass through small medieval villages, admiring the famously beautiful countryside as you zip around the roads with ease. Halfway through the day, you’ll take a break at a traditional farm to enjoy a wine tasting and light lunch.
Make your way back to the train station in Florence to return your Vespa, then hop inside your transfer vehicle for the ride back to Montecatini. Your day trip ends back at the start point.
7:30am: free shuttle from Montecatini, Piazzale Italia (check point bus) near the train station to Florence train Station
9:00am: departure of the tour from Florence Santa Maria Novella train station
5:30pm: the tour ends and free time to visit Florence on your own
8:30pm: free shuttle service to go back to Montecatini. (Shuttle meeting point: Santa Maria Novella train station, in front of the pharmacy with the green cross)
9:30pm: Arrival in Montecatini, Piazza Italia (check point bus) near the train station
The tour was the perfect way to see Tuscany and the winery was a great choice for lunch. Delicious food and good wine!
We had not anticipated how much time was going to be wasted though. We had to meet at the bus station at 7:15 for pick up, but they didn’t arrive until 7:45am. We arrived in Florence at 8:20, checked in and then waited around until 9:15am. Then we drove to Sienna (another hour), then had to have everyone practice on a single Vespa. The group was so large that we didn’t even leave until 11:40am. There weren’t enough Vespas for all the people signed up, so some had to double up or drive in a Fiat.
Since we were so behind schedule, we didn’t get a chance to stop at a single place to take pictures of the beautiful panoramic setting. That was disappointing!
It was a fun and unique experience we will talk about for years, but I’d check into the specific details of other tours and pick something else next time!
