Convene with your local guide in old town Ljubljana and begin your 3-hour culinary walking tour. First, stroll into an old Yugoslavian influenced fish tavern for light bites and wine. Sense the ambiance of the early 20th century and begin to see the changes of Slovenia’s cultural past and present.
Then walk to a few bars and cafes nestled under beautiful chestnut trees. This beautiful neighborhood is a lovely place to treasure a platter of charcuterie and cheese. Rinse down the salty goodness with Slovenian wine sourced from nearby vineyards. Try lesser known selections for a true Slovenian experience.
Listen to the chatter of locals mingling at sidewalk cafes as you walk along the Ljubljanica River, then duck into a bakery for a taste of local Ljubljana cake.
Next, make your way over beautiful Triple Bridge towards Preseren Square (Presernov trg) where on hot days the city creates a manmade rain cloud that sprinkles refreshing water droplets. Here, visit the statue of poet France Preseren and learn how his love story helped Slovenia become the country of love.
Continue on to a shop full of regional honey and blueberry schnapps and try the sweeter side of Slovenia. Finally, head up to a rooftop cafe for one of the city’s best vantage points and perhaps a drink (own expense). Enjoy salutations with your fellow group members and guide before you decide your next Ljubljana experience.
