Meet up with your guide in the morning at Kamakura Station’s east exit. You’ll immediately proceed by foot toward your first itinerary stop at “Danzakura.”

Explore this Shinto pathway that connects two local “tori” (gates), the Sanno torii gate and Nino torii gate. Your guide will explain more about this Japanese religion and its emphasis on symbolic divisions between the spiritual and physical world. Visitors who stop by this site in the spring will also get to enjoy the local cherry trees in full bloom. No matter what time of year you visit, you’ll get to enjoy free samples from the food vendors selling side dishes and pickled foodstuffs to locals.

Continue your walk to Sanno tori gate, where you’ll reach the entrance to Tsurugaoka Hachimangu, the most important Shinto shrine in Kamakura. You’ll sit down for a traditional Japanese lunch including an etiquette lesson from your guide on the cultural and culinary traditions of Japanese cuisine.

Head next to Komachi Dori, a commercial strip lined with more than 250 food vendors, boutiques, cafes, and restaurants. You can sample some additional snacks here before finishing your trip at a Japanese garden house, where you’ll be served dessert and tea. Finish the trip by returning back to your starting point at Kamakura Station.
