Start your day trip at the Hotel Warwick in central Geneva and depart on a 1.5-hour drive to Chamonix, a picturesque resort town situated at the base of towering Mont Blanc (White Mountain), the highest peak in the Alps at an approximate elevation of 15,780 feet (4,810 meters).
As you journey through the Arve Valley to your destination, slip on your audio headset to hear commentary on the region. Enjoy unobstructed views of the Swiss and French Alps from the open-top bus, which uses a retractable glass roof in case of chilly weather.
Crossing the Swiss border into France, you’ll arrive early in Chamonix before the crowds descend. Say farewell to your guide in front of the Aiguille du Midi cable car, and spend the rest of the day at your leisure. You're free to meander around Chamonix on foot to attractions such as Parc Loisir, Musée Alpin, Lac Gaillands and Atelier Les Racines. Or upgrade for a gourmet 3-course lunch or all-inclusive experience that lets you avoid long queues with your pre-ordered cable car and railway tickets (see descriptions below).
In the late afternoon, meet back up with your guide for the return coach ride to Geneva, this time via the north side of the valley for a different view.
Lunch Option: If you opted for the a 3-course lunch, you’ll dine at Le Bistrot, in Chamonix that serves refined and innovative French cuisine. See the Itinerary for a sample menu.
All-Inclusive Option (with or without lunch): Take the Aiguille du Midi cable car up to 12,605 feet (3,842 meters) to a landing of permanent snow and ice for stunning panoramas of Mont Blanc and the surrounding French, Swiss and Italian Alps. At the summit, experience 'Step into the Void,' an enclosed glass platform that lets you hover weightlessly above the snow-covered valley.
Later, ride the Montenvers railway to the Mer de Glace. Then descend by gondola onto the glacier and explore the ice caves that are carved out into the heart of the ice.
