  • 4.5-hour private scallop-picking tour in Homosassa
  • Swim through the water to find and pick scallops
  • Watch for other wildlife such as dolphins and sea turtles
  • Enjoy personalized attention from a private captain
Your adventure starts at the tour office in Homosassa, where you'll meet your private captain-guide, board your 10-passenger boat, and head into the waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

In the summer, scallops spawn in the shallow grass beds off the Homosassa River before reaching the end of their life cycles, so this is the perfect time to pick them. Using the provided gear (mask, snorkel, fins, and scallop bag), go on an underwater hunt to find scallops, plus keep your eyes open for other marine life such as starfish, sea turtles, dolphins, pufferfish, conch, and seahorses.

Licensing to pick scallops is taken care of for you by booking this tour. When your time on the water is up, you'll return to the marina to end your tour.

Please note: This tour on the Gulf of Mexico is recommended for strong swimmers, as ocean conditions can vary greatly and change quickly, with choppy waters and depths from 4 to 10 feet (1.2 to 3 meters). Small children can be accommodated, but you are bringing them at your own risk and are responsible for them when you're out scalloping. Children under the age of 3 years are not allowed on group tours but may be brought on private tours only. The best scalloping conditions are sunny days at low tides, in the morning in order to avoid afternoon storms. Rain, tides, winds, moon cycles, and sunlight all affect visibility, and rough waters can be difficult for some to endure. Keep in mind when booking this tour that Mother Nature cannot be controlled.
