After morning pickup at your Chiang Mai hotel, travel with your guide in an air-conditioned minivan for about one hour to reach Tong Bai Foundation's elephant camp at Mae Win.
When you arrive, the Tong Bai staff welcome you and provide an informative orientation to the work of their nonprofit animal sanctuary. Learn about threats to the Asian elephant, the history of domesticated elephants in Thailand and the shrinking natural habitat for wild elephants. Then get better acquainted with the elephants during a walk around their quarters.
Enjoy a lunch of Thai specialty dishes before your in-depth experience with the elephants. After eating, your guide and local staff accompany you on a walk through the forest with the elephants. Head to the river where you can watch the elephants get a bath — they love the water! Watch them play and spray water. After a good scrub, the elephants cool off in the stream before you walk with them back to their compound. You can get wet in the river or remain on the bank and enjoy the fun while staying dry.
Depart in the late afternoon after receiving a commemorative certificate of your visit to the Tong Bai Foundation. Return to Chiang Mai where your full-day tour ends with drop-off at your hotel.
