Your first stop is the Curtea de Arges Monastery, a 16th-century structure considered one of Romania’s most important pilgrimage sites. During your tour of the grounds, you’ll hear legends of pregnant women trapped inside the walls and men who attempted to fly to the moon with wooden wings.
Proceed to the ruins of Poienari Castle, the former fortress of Vlad the Impaler, a Romanian ruler that inspired the character of Count Dracula. Please note, more that 1,400 steps must be ascended in order to reach the top of the fortress; therefore a moderate level of fitness is required.
