What You Can Expect

Private Day Trip: Shilinxia Glass Platform and Ming City Wall Park

The Shilinxia Glass Platform

After pickup from your central Beijing hotel, travel by private, air-conditioned vehicle to the Shilinxia Scenic Area, also called the Jingdong or Pinggu Stone Forest Gorge, or Jingdong Grand Canyon.

Along the way, head into the rolling hills northeast of the city and listen as your guide shares stories about the Stone Gorge and the Shilinxia Platform. Covering about 4.5 square miles (12 square kilometers), the gorge consists of millennias-old stone formations and peaks, all interspersed by valleys, rivers, pools, and waterfalls.

After your approximately 43-mile (70-kilometer) journey, arrive at the Shilinxia gateway and admire the strangely shaped rock formations. Then, ride a cable car (own expense) halfway up the gorge’s highest mountain. Disembark here and climb the rest of the way to the peak up the stairs. The steps are steep and climbing takes about 30 minutes.

On arrival, take in the spectacular, circular glass platform protruding about 107 feet (32.8 meters) from the mountainside and suspended about 1,300 feet (400 meters) up.

Don the shoe covers and walk onto the glass, absorbing the incredible views to the gorge base and across to Jinhai Lake and Mount Pan. The platform projects 37 feet (11.4 meters) further than the US Grand Canyon Skywalk, so the experience is breathtaking — providing you’re not terrified of heights!

Afterward, savor lunch at a Chinese restaurant before making the roughly 1.75-hour journey to Beijing’s Ming City Wall Park. Drink in the park’s peaceful atmosphere and see its showpiece: the last remaining, and restored section of the 15th-century wall that once encircled Beijing.

Admire the 1.2-mile (2-kilometer) Ming-era edifice, noting its brickwork and bullet holes, and climb the Southeast Corner Watchtower, complete with 144 arrow windows, as your guide outlines its history.

Your trip then concludes with a hotel drop-off.

This is one of very interesting new spot destination around Beijing. We went there as a who.e family with grandpa and grandma and children. They have fun walking and cable car. Miss Angie, our tour guide is also very informative with any knowledge about history, education, and recent issues so we can hear from her a lot of information. The lunch is served well especially for the two of us who are vegetarian.

Well done, reccomended to use this operator and any selected destionation from this operator. Thanksss

Although my trip has changed to go Gubei water town last minutes due to the roadworks, I appreciate the prompt confirmation from the tour agency.

My experience with them is extremely great. Me and my mum had great time at the water town. Angie and the chauffeur, mr Zhang, were friendly too.

The excursion to the countryside was great, nice to escape the hustle and bustle of Beijing. Be prepared to clime a significant amount of stairs even after taking the cable cars most of the way up. But the platform is really cool, and the views are spectacular.
