Your private guide picks you up in the morning at either centrally located Auckland hotels or the cruise ship terminal.
Travel in a comfortable climate-controlled private vehicle through the Waitakere Ranges to Auckland’s West Coast, which is known for its lush subtropical rainforest, towering cliffs, roaring surf and black-sand beaches. Between August and March, you can get a great vantage point on large colonies of gannet birds that nest on isolated clifftops at Muriwai Beach.
You can stop at boutique wineries in Kumeu Wine Country. If you prefer good beer, you can go to a local craft brewery for tastings or visit New Zealand’s oldest riverside pub, the popular Riverhead Historic Tavern, located on Rangitopuni Creek.
Fresh produce is available at roadside fruit and vegetable stalls, weekend farmers markets, and strawberry fields where you can pick your own fruit (available seasonally).
Your guide provides informative commentary throughout the day, and can personalize the tour to your interests. At the end of your 8-hour tour, your guide returns you to your hotel or cruise ship in Auckland.
