Make your own way to the Portuguese Synagogue in central Amsterdam up to 30 minutes before the concert commences and head inside to take your seat. Soak up the atmosphere of the magnificent 17th-century cathedral, decorated with hundreds of burning candles, as you wait for the musicians to take to the stage.

Then, sit back and enjoy a mesmerizing hour-long performance featuring virtuoso musicians and timeless compositions, brought to the life by the synagogue’s breath-taking acoustics.

Olivier Greif Ensemble
Musicians living in Groningen, with Russian, French and Spanish roots, advocates of Olivier Greif, the French-Jewish composer (1950-2000), play colorful and thrilling piano trios by Greif and Fauré.

Thursday 19 January

James Oesi & Andrea Vasi
Two great sonatas by Schubert and Brahms, joined by a selection from Ernest Bloch’s From Jewish Life. Oesi arranged the parts for arpeggione, cello and violin for himself on double bass, supported by Vasi on piano.

Apollo Ensemble
These specialists in Baroque have put together a program dedicated to the Anglo-Italian-Jewish composer Giacobbe Cervetto (1690-1783) and his contemporaries.

Benjamin Herman and the Robin Nolan Trio
A unique collaboration between famous jazz saxophonist Benjamin Herman and gypsy guitarist Robin Nolan, who’ve recorded Swing de Paris together. This music brings Django Reinhardt’s heritage to life.

Ensemble Oerknal!
With The Viola in My Life by Morton Feldman (1926-1987). The building and acoustics of the Portuguese Synagogue fit perfectly with the quiet, kaleidoscopic and beautiful music of Feldman.
