When you book, select your chosen departure time (depending on season), with or without an optional hotel pickup and drop-off from Akureyri.
Then, on the day, step aboard your whale-watching boat at the harbor at Dalvik, a small fishing town just north of Akureyri. If you wish, pull on the supplied coveralls over your clothes to keep you warm during your trip.
Find a spot on deck and soak up the views of Dalvik’s colorful houses as you boat cruises out to a nearby whale-watching area. Along the way, listen to the informative commentary from your guide about the marine species that frequent the local seas, and keep a close watch on the waters.
Look for minke and humpback whales, as well as harbor porpoises and white-beaked dolphins. The whales of north Iceland often surface near boats, so have your camera ready at all times!
Scan the skies and shores for seabirds such as puffins, Arctic terns and gannets; and refuel with complimentary hot drinks and light Icelandic snacks available from the viewing deck.
After watching for whales, cruise on to a fishing area to enjoy a 15-minute sea angling session. Learn how to use the onboard rods and tackle, and if you’re lucky, catch a specimen or two. Then, return to the harbor and if you wish, sizzle up your fresh catch on a grill and dig in!
Depending on your chosen tour option, your experience then finishes at the harbor or with a return transfer and hotel drop-off in Akureyri.
