Sewall-Belmont House & Museum Tours

Built in 1800 as a private home and sold to the National Women’s Party in 1929, this small Capitol Hill building is dedicated to America’s women’s suffrage and equal-rights movements. The Equal Rights Amendment was drafted at this National Historic Landmark, but remains un-passed today.

In addition to a permanent display of art, vintage photos, and artifacts, the Museum always features a series of rotating exhibits, like histories of female senators, and a video about the history of women’s fight for the vote and equal rights for all marginalized groups.  Guided tours last approximately one hour.

Practical Information

On weekdays, limited street parking is available in the surrounding neighborhood. On weekends, you can park in the Senate parking lot at 2nd and C Streets, NE. The museum is a 10-15 minute walk from two Metrorail stations: Union Station (Red Line) and Capitol South (Blue and Orange Lines).
