Neka Art Museum Tours

Located in Bali's artistic center, the Neka Art Museum traces the history of Balinese painting from its roots through its modern manifestations. Founded by former schoolteacher Suteja Neka, the gallery features hundreds of works by local, Indonesian and foreign artists who were all inspired by the natural and cultural beauty of Bali.

The Balinese Painting Hall serves as a good starting point for a general overview. Also of note are the collections of two of the island's most well-known artists in the Art of Arie Smit Pavilion and the Lempad Pavilion. The former showcases the works of the Dutch-born artist adn friedn of Neka's, while the latter displays work by I Gusti Nyoman Lempad, a local artist best known for his linear drawings of Balinese mythology and folklore scenes.
