St Paul's Within the Walls Tours

1 review
Rome is well-known as the epicenter of the Catholic world, with Vatican City inside its borders. St. Paul’s Within the Walls, however, is an Episcopal church - it was the first Protestant church built in Rome, constructed in the late 19th century.

There are four mosaics inside the church that are some of its biggest draws. These were designed by the Pre-Raphaelite artist, Edward Burne-Jones, and completed between 1885-1907 (the last after Burne-Jones’ death). The mosaics were created using glass from Murano, and for these the Italian government designated the church a National Monument.

St. Paul’s Within the Walls is a venue for regular musical performances, including opera. You can see productions of famous Italian operas such as “La Traviata” with the beautiful setting and acoustics of the church.
