Crescent Street (Rue Crescent) Tours

Crescent Street (Rue Crescent) is well known by both travelers and locals for being the heart of Montreal nightlife, thanks to the many bars, restaurants, galleries, and entertainment options that line the international destination. Opened in 1860, the once crescent-shaped street was home to office and administrative buildings for over a hundred years before the opening of its two most popular bars—Don Juan and The Boiler Room—and its following transformation into the go-to location for drinking, food, dance, and culture.

Travelers in search of local flavor, an evening out, or a look at regional artists’ work can find all of these things on Crescent Street. An annual summer fair and Formula 1 race known as the Grand Prix Festival is perhaps one of the best ways to take in the highlights of this popular downtown destination. Visitors can explore the hallmarks of Crescent Street on their own, or sign up for a walking or bus tour of Montreal.

Practical Info

Crescent Street is located in downtown Montreal. The southbound street extends from Sherbrooke Street to Rene Levesque Boulevard. It is easily accessible by bus and metro, and on foot.

The closest bus stops are located at Sainte-Catherine/de la Montagne (bus 15 or 358) and boul. René-Levesque Ouest/rue Lucien-l'Allier (bus 28). Alternately, you can take metro line 1 to Station Peel or Station Guy-Concordia, or metro line 2 to Station Lucien-L'Allier. All stations are located around a third of a mile (550m) from Crescent Street, or about a 6-minute walk.

Consider purchasing a hop-on, hop-off bus tour of Montreal by day or by night to visit the street without worrying about public transportation.
