Mario Testino Museum (Museo Mario Testino MATE) Tours

Set in a restored, 19th century mansion in the Bohemian district of Barranco, the Mario Testino Museum in Lima is a powerful collective of contemporary art from a fashion photography icon. Born in Lima, but having worked in London, Mario Testino became famous for his portraits of the late Princess Diana, as well as celebrities and supermodels like Kate Moss and Gisele Bündchen.

With his opening of his MATE museum in Barranco, Testino has not only created a space to house his celebrated work, but also fuse the Peruvian arts scene with works from around the globe. On a guided tour of the MATE Museum, visitors will experience a rotating exhibit of photography, painting, and sculpture, along with the famous portrait work of Mario Testino himself. Some of the most vibrant and colorful works are those depicting traditional dress and indigenous Peruvian cultures, which manage to capture the nation’s past and put it on modern display. The museum also hosts regular events, from film screenings to workshops and conferences, and is an educational, artistic space for showcasing Peru to the world.

Practical Info

The museum is completely wheelchair accessible and there is a café and gift shop on site.

Did You Know? The museum building was completely restored to feature the same lighting, look, and feel, as when it was originally built.
