Pick Salami and Szeged Paprika Museum Tours

Two of Hungary’s most celebrated food items each have a long history of their own, which deserve to be experienced (and tasted!) Visitors to the museum get the chance to view both the production and learn about the history of both products, along with gratuitous samples.

The centuries old production traditions are specific and particular — ranging from ingredients to processes and secret spices. The museum itself is part of the original salami factory founded in 1869, though both the salami and paprika spice are important products originating in Szeged.

Szeged itself is a beautiful small Hungarian town worth seeing, but the heart behind its main products is what makes it a truly special place. The paprika here is known to be some of the world’s best, with the harvest of fresh peppers taking place each September. Sold in local markets but known by food enthusiasts around the world, the highlight of any visit is always the tastings at the end.

Practical Info

The Pick Salami and Szeged Paprika Museum can be found beside the Tisza River, accessible by trams 3 and 4 or bus 20 at the Glattfelder Gyula Tér stop. It’s open Tuesday to Saturday (closed Monday and Sunday) from 3 to 6 pm, with an entry fee of HUF 980 for adults and HUF 740 for children and students (tastings included.) The products are both available at a discounted price in the museum’s gift shop.
