It has now been more than 100 years since the Easter Rising of Ireland, a rebellion that would forever change the country. The GPO (General Post Office) of Dublin was the heart of communications during that time, and this center is home to exhibitions that explain its important role in the foundation of the existing government. It was indeed upon the roof of the GPO that the flag for the new Irish Republic was first raised.
The centre uses the latest technologies to tell the story of the last century, of the development of modern Ireland as we know it today. At its heart is the stories of the many people who lived at that time and bravely stood up to plan and execute the events that happened across the city. Interactive touch screens, videos, and other multimedia combines with artifacts and eye witness accounts for a moving experience. The centre is an important stop on any tour of Dublin.
The centre is located on the iconic O’Connell Street at the heart of Dublin city. It’s open daily from 9am-5:30pm (10am on weekends.) Guided tours are given daily at 11am, 2pm, and 3:30pm. Admission costs €10 for adults and €7.50 for children.
