Eclectic. Diverse. Big.  The Byron Bay Markets are well-known in New South Wales for good reason. Visitors are urged to go early in order to give time for exploring all the stalls, grabbing a meal, and listening to local buskers or bands.

Every first Sunday of the month, these Byron Bay Community Markets take over Butler State reserve from 8am to 4pm. Stalls range from artwork and handicrafts to jewelry to locally-grown produce and fresh cooked food. Imported goods and wares bring the continents of Africa and Asia to the event; the visual vibrance is a result of this diversity. Families with children are encouraged to make it a day, especially with the normal hands-on activities targeted to little ones.

At the same location on every Thursday morning, area farmers bring their fresh produce for a glorious Byron Bay Farmers Market – a colorful attraction worth wandering whether shopping or not.

Another local market worth checking out is the Byron Bay Artisan Market at Railway Park, which showcases local art and handicrafts on Saturday evenings. This market closes for winter and operates from the first Saturday in October to the Saturday before Easter.

If the schedule of markets within Byron Bay doesn't suit a specific travel schedule, regional markets operate in a rotating manner, ensuring something is on most weekends.
