House Museum of Soap (Casa Museo del Sapone) Tours

In the town of Sciacca, not far from Agrigento, an old Sicilian farmhouse has been renovated and turned into the Casa Museo del Sapone - the House Museum of Soap.

There are exhibits in the museum talking about the history of soap-making and the science behind it. The history of soap dates back to 2800 BC, and there are various historical soap-making tools on display.

The museum is surrounded by olive groves, and next door is Principi di Cartabubbo, a company that makes soap and other cosmetic products from the extra virgin olive oil made right on the estate (which they also sell). The family that runs the company decided to create the House Museum of Soap to showcase some of their own knowledge of soap-making.

Practical Info

Visitors to the soap museum get a guided tour and, at the end, an opportunity to try some of the company’s products.
